
Blue Anemone /Hepatica nobilis/
It is a perennial herb of the buttercup family.
It has a small size, ranging from 5 to 20 cm. The rootstock is short, dark brown, and twisted. There are many stems covered with tiny hairs, brown, or reddish-brown. The underside of the leaves is violet. Young leaves are covered with hairs, while older ones are smooth. The flowers are solitary, with a size of up to 2 cm. The perianth has 6-10 violet-blue petals. It blooms from late March to May.
It is widespread throughout Latvia, growing in sunny slopes, deciduous forests, and shrubs.
It is commonly used as a decorative plant in rock gardens. In medieval times, it was used for treating liver diseases. In modern homeopathy, it is used for skin rashes, bronchitis, and gout treatment.
