Comfrey /Symphytum officinale/

Comfrey is frequently encountered in Latvia. It is a perennial, robust, and large (40-120 cm) herb of the borage family. The entire plant is densely covered with coarse hairs. It blooms from June to September, typically in small groups along riverbanks, in shrubs, and alongside railways.

The medicinal part of the plant is the root, which is harvested in autumn. Medicinal remedies derived from the root exhibit astringent and anti-inflammatory effects. A decoction of the roots enhances tone, improves appetite, and is used in cases of colitis, diarrhea, stomach, and intestinal bleeding.

Comfrey root extract softens, heals the skin, stimulates rapid cell regeneration, facilitates quick skin moisturization, giving it a healthy appearance. It is also used as an aromatic oil component in baths.
