Common Hop /Humulus lupulus/

In Latvia, common hop is not commonly found. It grows in various-sized groups or moderately wet forests, shrubs near rivers, and lake shores. A perennial, large (2-8 m) vine of the hemp family with a long, winding stem. Male and female flowers are on different plants. The stem typically climbs upward, entwining nearby trees and shrubs. It blooms in July and August.

Hops contain lupulin, used in medicine as a calming agent, utilized in the brewing industry to enhance beer aroma, act as a preservative, and provide a mildly narcotic effect, making the beer bitter and refreshing.
