Common Toadflax /Linaria vulgaris/
Common toadflax is a 30-60 cm tall perennial herb of the plantain family. The stem is erect, without branches, with linear leaves. The flowers are yellow and bloom from June to September.
It is found throughout Latvia, growing in dry areas in forests, meadows, and slopes.
The composition of common toadflax includes the alkaloid pelargonidin, flavonoid glycosides, carotene, phytosterols, and organic acids such as citric acid, malic acid, and others. In folk medicine, infusions and teas made from this plant are used for intestinal atony, bladder catarrh, urinary incontinence, as a mild laxative, choleretic agent, and diuretic.
