Common Yarrow /Achillea millefolium/

Common yarrow is a plant species in the aster family, widely distributed across the entire territory of Latvia. Individual specimens and various-sized groups can be found in meadows, fields, road verges, quarries, and various dry grassy areas.

Common yarrow is a perennial herb, ranging from 15 to 70 cm in height. Its stem is erect, stiff, simple, short-hairy, and branched in the inflorescence. The flowers are tiny, arranged in a flat-topped inflorescence at the top of the stem. It blooms from June to October.

Common yarrow is a medicinal plant used to make teas and herbal remedies. Yarrow possesses hemostatic (blood-clotting) and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also cultivated as an ornamental plant and as a source of honey for bees.
