Cowslip /Primula veris/

This is a perennial plant of the primrose family. It grows to a small size: 15 to 30 cm. The leaves are arranged in a rosette. The flowers are yellow. It blooms in May and June.

Found throughout Latvia, it grows in bushes, forests, and dry meadows.

It is a medicinal plant containing saponins, glycosides, and vitamins A and C. Primarily used as an expectorant, it is employed for treating migraines, gout, rheumatism, insomnia, and coughs. It can be irritating to those allergic to it.

In Spanish cuisine, cowslip leaves are used in salads, and in England, the flowers are used to flavor homemade wines.
