European Fly Honeysuckle /Lonicera xylosteum/

Evergreen, small (1-3 m) shrub from the honeysuckle family. Bark is brownish-gray. Branches are upright or arching, hollow, with older branches usually bare. Flowers in pairs, becoming darker towards the end of flowering. Corolla is yellowish-white. Fruit is dark red, shiny, with two berries (diameter 0.6-0.9 cm), usually slightly fused at the base. Blooms in May and June.

Found throughout Latvia in forests, ravines, forest edges, especially in river valleys.

Berries are toxic!
