Goldenrod /Solidago virgaurea/
It is a perennial, medium to large-sized (20-100 cm) member of the Asteraceae family. In Latvia, it is often found individually or in groups in dry forests, clearcuts, dry meadows, roadsides, and forest edges. Goldenrod blooms from July to October.
The upper parts of the herbaceous stem with inflorescences, collected during the flowering period, are used for medicinal purposes. The plant is known for its pronounced diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects. Due to these properties, it is widely used in cases of chronic bladder and kidney diseases, especially for issues like the formation of urinary stones and urination problems in older individuals.
