Important and interesting facts
There are 3 species of pool frogs in Latvia: marsh frog, pool frog and edible frog.
Mixed populations of the pool frog and the green frog are commonly found in Latvia and continue to interbreed. While the marsh frog prefers flowing water bodies, the pool frog likes stagnant waters, the edible frog is found in habitats that are intermediate in nature - small ponds, flooded meadows, river creeks, impoundments, dams, canals, fish ponds.
They are not fully investigated because their similarity to the source species is confusing, but they have been shown to occur wherever both lake and pond frogs coexist.
They spend the entire activity season in the water or on the shore of a body of water.
Legs of the edible frogs are a French delicacy.
The eyes are closer together than these of the brown frogs.
