Wood Anemone /Anemone ranunculoides/

It is a perennial, small-sized (7-20 cm) plant of the buttercup family. Its flowers are yellow (diameter 2-3 cm), and the fruit is a fluffy aggregate of achenes. It blooms in late April and May, flowering before the trees leaf out. It is common in Latvia, growing both individually and in monodominant stands in fertile areas of forests, shrubby thickets, and riverbank ravines. It is also widespread as a decorative plant in rock gardens.
