Wood Cranesbill /Geranium sylvaticum/
It is a variable-looking species in the crane's-bill genus. It is widely found throughout the territory of Latvia. Groups of various sizes grow in shrubs, forests, overgrown meadows, and forest edges. It is a perennial, medium-sized (30-80 cm) herbaceous plant. The flowers are in a loose inflorescence at the top of the stem and branches. Petals are reddish-violet.
It blooms from June to August. In ancient Europe, a dye was prepared from the flowers of wood cranesbill to produce a gray-blue color used for dyeing military clothing, believed to protect soldiers in battles.
