Wood Sorrel /Oxalis acetosella/
It is a perennial, small (5-10 cm) plant of the wood sorrel family. The root is creeping, and there is no above-ground stem. The leaves form a rosette, compound with three leaflets, and the upper surface of the leaf blade is finely hairy. The leaf stalk is often reddish and hairy. The flower corolla is white. It blooms in May and June.
In Latvia, it is commonly found in various-sized groups and stands in coniferous, mixed, and deciduous forests, as well as in shrubby areas. It is a shade-tolerant forest species.
Due to the presence of organic acids, the leaves have a pleasant sour taste. Preparations based on this plant have diuretic and cholagogic effects, regulate digestive processes, and enhance gastric acidity.
