Garden Angelica /Angelica archangelica/
It is a robust biennial plant with a pleasant aroma, reaching a height of 1-2.5 m. In the first year of its life, it forms only a rosette of root leaves, while in the second year, a large, bare, hollow stem emerges from the root. The stem branches in the upper part, and the inflorescences are umbrella-shaped, measuring 8-15 cm in diameter. The plant blooms in the second year from June to August, and the fruit ripens in September.
The scientific name Angelica is derived from the Latin word angelus (angel, God's messenger), suggesting the plant's medicinal properties as indicated by an angel. The root is primarily used for medicinal purposes, occasionally the leaves and flowers. Angelica root infusion is used for various purposes, including relieving abdominal bloating, treating gastrointestinal issues, gastritis, biliary dyskinesia, colds, bronchitis, laryngitis, pneumonia, serving as a diuretic, bactericidal, and expectorant.
