Shaggy Mane
Shaggy mane is an edible mushroom belonging to the ink cap mushroom family. The gills are initially white, later turning gray, and finally becoming wet, black, and ultimately dissolving into a black, inky liquid along with the cap. This liquid is referred to as ink, giving the mushroom its distinctive name. Shaggy mane is quite common and can be found in nutrient-rich soils, including city lawns.
It begins to grow in June and can be found until the end of autumn. This mushroom is good to eat when the gills are still white. It is one of the rare mushrooms that can be consumed fresh, although in this state, it is nearly tasteless, and it is usually recommended to be cooked.
Shaggy manes can be dried in a pan. Clean, wash, dry, and cook them in a pan without oil, stirring. Next, they need to be roasted until completely dry (about an hour). The dried mushrooms are ground into powder and stored in a sealed glass jar. The powder is used as a seasoning, imparting a mushroom taste and aroma.
